AS WE SEE
Meanwhile, the other side perceives itself to be the ‘freight train of freedom’ delivering liberty and freedom by means
of war.

Laying claim to virtue and righteousness becomes a despicable joke as those who see themselves ‘Righteous’ now
must fix that which ‘righteousness’ failed to prevent*.

There is nothing that justifies the unspeakable actions associated with terrorism but we would be wise to quit
pretending we do not understand the underlying perceptions.  With a backdrop of perceived inequality viewed as the
contributing force it may be possible to speculate a founding mind-set to which violence is interpreted as noble and
justified. To paraphrase a past American political slogan..."it's about equality stupid"  The root of all mass conflict
always has, and will always be, all about the real, or perceived, status of human equality.

OPTIONS?

What are the options for a small power who perceives larger powers as enemies?  Is appeasement the only available
avenue for peace?  What happens when a request to converse is denied by the larger power?  A conventional war of
attrition is not an option for a people relative few in number and/or in possession of antiquated military technology.

A different war must be fought and it must be engaged by a focus upon the anticipated rewards of service to noble
cause.  Perhaps there is a sense that despite overwhelming odds, violence conducted in service to a deity just may
yield victory someday. Meanwhile, recruiting for the cause of battling “Satan" makes past and future sacrifice a
much more palatable proposition.
Over the years the animosity has
grown and the conflict has
expanded.  The perception is that
current conflicts distill down to a
classic battle between good and
evil.  One side believes it is violence
on the highest order in the endeavor
to eliminate both evil and those
perceived the source of evil.
FREEDOM        LIBERTY     JUSTICE       COAL

As Americans it is often beyond our capability to comprehend just why it is we are so despised by so many nations,
especially those of the Middle East.  At times it feels hopeless that a fully harmonious co-existence will ever be
realized.  As hatred converts to action it is shocking for us to witness not only killing but also the manner in which it
is done.  The disrespect of individual dignity as manifest by beheadings and other forms of desecration is experienced
so intensely the individual soul experiences a degree of corruption in merely the beholding.
