Function of Religion
At the foundation of most religions is a desire to embrace and apply a divine love of such
power full human understanding can never be fully secured. If a divine love is the focus of
any parishioner it will be the understanding of a freely-chosen individual destiny that soon
follows. The embrace of doctrine will naturally assume proper perspective and proportion.
Make a decision to lead a principled life, it will serve you and others very well. Let religion
be about unconditional fellowship in the realms of spirit and mystery.
Religion finds a point of origin in the fulfillment of legitimate human needs. Certainly the need for
affiliation is virtually universal. Affiliation with like-afflicted people provides the frame in which
unseen powers can be explained through fellowship and the application of positive religious
A foundational component of the Unseen is the notion of time in juxtaposition to past, present,
and future. Anxiety attached to Uncertainty can be diminished through the vehicle of religion.
For those so inclined, religion has the potential as a tool to enhance understanding. It can
function as a framework upon which the direction of belief and behavior can be suggested.
With noble intent religion too often addresses the desire of 'knowing' through an emphasis upon a distorted
perspective. That which is conveyed is a sense that the future largely applies to an after-life perceived in need of
'earning'..."Earned" by way of compliance to virtue defined by those self-proclaimed as qualified.
So Much Traffic...
So many One-Ways
There are foundational standards that must be addressed to have a fulfilled life. Despite pervasive perceptions
to the contrary, there exists a very finite set of variations possible relative to distinctions between any two
individuals or peoples. And in the characterizations outside the realm of potential distinctions there exists
many attributes and needs of which no living individual has the option to avoid 'in-common'. These can be
fulfilled by individual effort and enhanced by fellowship with others.
In the beginning the word was 'Survival'. If the seeds of Politics, Science, and Religion
existed at all there was no divergence in course or, perceivable distinctions. I was all
about saving ones' own ass and the asses of those directly supporting this singular cause.
As humanity enhanced adaptations beneficial to physical survival there eventually became time to
ponder topics other then those directly related to the survival of a day. Perhaps in parallel realms
religion evolved from Singular-Creation moving forward ever-changing in practice and definition
within context of a symbiotic relationship with a humanity ever progessing in spiritual realms.
The emergence of religion was actually a logical and positive development in the evolution of humanity- or shouldda'
be. As merging unseen forces elevate to confuse evolving brains, religion intends to provide explanation and comfort
while navigating both the unseen and unknown. In the broad perception of a mysterious realm, religion seeks to meld
the powers granted humanity to accentuate the spiritual experience.
State of Religion
When viewed as whole the entire institution of religion represents the powers of Creation in proportions contrary
to the notion it was never not fully intended. At its very foundation Religion addresses legitimate human needs.
Nothing invented has ever existed without an attached purpose- even if that purpose is never realized (or, if that
purpose is so obscured by self-serving agendas or demented interpretations it appears as something 'other').
Religion inordinately focuses upon those actions to be avoided in preparation for an
eternal after-life. At times this focus comes at the expense to the acquisition of
practical skills and spiritual growth directly relevant to a life lived on earth. Curiosity
and innovation may then suffer from being forbidden or seen as unnecessary.
Perhaps the non-believer may acknowledge a role is played by religion but would likely view this role as
provision of artificial-comfort extracted from a pandemic delusion . Conversely, many believers would proclaim
the primary purpose of their religion is to convert lost souls otherwise condemned to suffer for eternity. Both
parties know exactly what religion brings….For the Other!
The oft nebulous language of religion then sets to address the uncertain and the unknown
through doctrine derived from a bewildering blend of vague policy and sweeping
generalizations. Meanwhile, many of those who would otherwise enjoy a fulfilled life upon earth
experience dissonance when contrasting the simplicity they perceive in juxtaposition to the many
complexities and contradictions of aggregate religion.
Sometimes the good of religion is diluted because it is perceived as the source of any
given standard. The role of religion may better serve to reinforce those standards
universally perceived as good through the embrace of diverse applications in benefit to
self and others. The lock-step adoption of denominational doctrine and behavioral
mandates suggests something other then full autonomy. The boundaries delineating
exclusivity endowed the individual then blur relative to those of the collective.
The purpose of Religion

Conversely, many believers would proclaim the primary purpose of their religion is to convert lost souls otherwise condemned to suffer for eternity.
